One of the many advantages of living at X Condominiums is its location right in between the downtown core and the Rosedale area. Want a break from the eateries and shops of downtown? Check out the extremely popular Toronto Underground Market, just Northeast of X Condos at the Brick Works.
The Toronto Underground Market – or TUM, as it’s appropriately known – will have its inaugural event on Saturday September 24th at the beautiful Evergreen Brick Works. Rather than the traditional daytime market, however, this event will be modelled after a similar series in San Francisco, taking place during the hours of 6-11 pm.
TUM is billed as a “social food market for the community to sample the food of Toronto home cooks”. The event, founded by Hassel Aviles, stems from the idea that everyone beyond just friends and family should experience home cooking of exceptional taste and quality. Not only does it provide an opportunity for Torontonians to savour unique and tasty local dishes but it also gives aspiring entrepreneurs a chance for some great public exposure.
With tickets at an affordable five dollars, the September event will host 26 vendors with offerings priced as low as $2 and none going beyond $8. In terms of options, expect the unexpected: local microbrews, deep-fried quail eggs, and even a sandwich showdown will all be included in the market.
TUM provides a refreshing alternative to the traditional tastings, farmers markets, and food truck eats which have become part of the growing street-food trend in Toronto. This new concept is certainly in demand, as all 1200 of the tickets for the inaugural September event are completely sold out. Despite this, prospective samplers needn’t worry – there will be another one in October and more following that, likely with a growing list of vendors.
Visit the TUM website for more info and to purchase tickets when they become available.
